APPROVAL OF THE SARASOTA HIGH SCHOOL 12TH GRADE MRI/RESEARCH FIELD TRIP TO ATLANTA, GEORGIA, ON MAY 11, 2008 THROUGH MAY 16, 2008Description Students will attend the Intel International Science Fair as a representative of Sarasota County to present and defend their research. This is the ultimate final activity for students completing four years of research at Sarasota High School.

26. APPROVAL TO AWARD BID #8127 FOR CONCRETE SERVICESDescription Bids to provide 'Concrete Services' were received from seven vendors on March 6, 2008. The bids of McLeod Land Services, Inc., and Superior Concrete Construction were the best low bids meeting the advertised specifications. Holland Enterprise was non-responsive to the maximum mark-up fee for materials, equipment rental and subcontracted services. This bid is for a period of one year with the option to renew for two additional one-year periods. The funds for these purchases are contained in the capital budget allocated to the Facilities Services Department.

The bids of Calico Industries, Inc., Coastal Chemical and Paper Supply, Inc., E & R Industrial Sales, Inc., Peninsular Paper Company, Pyramid School Products, Resource One, Inc., Unisource, W. W. Grainger, and West Florida Supply Company were the best low bids meeting the advertised specifications. Reasons for not selecting the apparent low bid are included with the bid tabulation. APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT #2 TO THE ARCHITECT'S AGREEMENT FOR THE NORTH COUNTY TECHNICAL CENTER PROJECT, PHASE 1B - SOUTH COUNTY TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL "CCC"Description The scope of work for this amendment shall include the design services for the re-use of Phase 1, Technical High School "BBB", the design services for the new construction portion of Phase 1B - South County Technical High School "CCC" (kitchen, cafeteria, media center, sitework and access road work) along with contingent additional services as outlined in the amendment attachment labeled Article 3.2 SC. The total cost of this amendment will include only the contingent additional services fee of $783,250.00 at this time. FINANCE
32. APPROVAL OF SUPERINTENDENT'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE MONTH ENDING FEBRUARY 29, 2008Description
The Superintendent's Financial Statements for the month ending February 29, 2008, continue to show a large increase in the District's cash balances from the previous year. This is due to the recent issues with the SBA. The SBA investments are currently shown in sections of the financial statements. Investments in Fund A that the District has current access to can be found under investments in the current assets section. SBA investments that are in Fund A but are currently under withdrawal restrictions are found under non-current assets. Fund B investments, which are currently not available to the District, are shown on a separate line in the non-current assets. All funds show a positive fund balance. In the Special Revenue Funds, revenues from local sources have decreased approximately 14% from the prior year. This is due to a grant that was received in the prior year that was not received this year. Food Service revenues are down approximately 3% while expenditures have remained consistent with the prior year.

APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT #10 TO THE ARCHITECT'S AGREEMENT FOR THE DESIGN OF THE RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL PROJECTDescription This Amendment shall reconcile the agreement for the cost of the architectural and consultant services as a result of [1] the increased square footage of the project, [2] redesign of the auditorium, [3] extension of the contract, [4] development of separate bid packages in order to keep the project on schedule, [5] redesign of the small learning communities, [6] incorporation of value engineering changes into the documents, and [7] incorporation into the contract of the civil engineering design fees that were inadvertently omitted from the initial contract.
